Melissa Bauer, B.S. Psy, ADC-IPHi! I am a Graduate Counseling Intern at Charleston Southern University in my final clinical training year. I earned my Bachelor of Science, in Psychology from the University of Maryland in 2020.
My priority is fostering a safe and compassionate space, free from judgement to explore one’s own journey and the path to healing. I have a background in advocacy for those with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities, have worked as a Certified Clinical Medical Assistant, and have experience in Trauma-Informed Addiction Counseling. I am passionate about guiding others to gain insight into the connection of their mind, body, and heart; and highlighting the importance of brain health just as much as our physical health. With a special interest in Individual Psychology (Adlerian), Family Systems Therapy, Polyvagal and Attachment Theory; I recognize three common themes: the role of interconnectedness in enhancing our lives, the importance of feeling genuinely seen and understood, and the impact self-acceptance can have for our lives. Whether this is your first time thinking about taking that step to try counseling, or your tenth round on the path of finding a counselor who understands you, I’m happy you’re here. At the end of the day, we all just want to feel better; we just learn to cope in different ways. I look forward to meeting you and normalizing this process. "The only way out is through"
